Editing and Production Workshop

SMC is proud to present its music production workshops in association with The Audio Recording Academy.

The Audio Recording Academy of Toronto (TARA Toronto) is an accredited post-secondary Private Career College, which provides an industry recognized education in Recording Arts. TARA Toronto is designed to maximize the overall learning experience, while maintaining a relaxed and accommodating environment.

TARA Toronto's core program is an 8-month course in Applied Audio Recording. Students gain a comprehensive balance of technical, artistic, and human skills needed in the recording industries of today and tomorrow.

With a unique approach and methodology, students can be assured that; within small class sizes, intimate interaction with industry active instructors and plenty of personal time in our 4 studios, they will graduate from TARA Toronto with a strong foundation in Recording Arts.

Damon de Szegheo
Damon de Szegheo is a working engineer, record producer, and record label owner based in Toronto, Canada. He has made over 200 records in his 15 year recording career with credits including Bruce Cockburn, Juno Award Winner Serena Ryder, members of Three Days Grace (Jive Records), and Christian band Thousand Foot Krutch (Tooth & Nail / Universal). In addition to recording Damon has sat been invited to sit on numerous Factor Grant juries, has toured with Country Music Legend Stompin' Tom Connors and gigs on a regular basis the indie rock duo The Books Elusive.

Kaje
Kaje is an Award winning Surround Sound Music Artist &Engineer. Known as one of the most unique individuals in the industry, he has been experimenting with Surround Sound for many years. Kaje has been recognized alongside the music elite when he was nominated in 2003 and won in 2005 at the Surround Sound Music Awards in Los Angeles besides the likes of Beck, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads, Pharrell and John Mayer. In 2001, Kaje scored a huge success with the hit remix “Electronic Funk 2000” by M1 which was respectfully remixed by Roger Sanchez. He has also had tracks and albums appear on the likes of NRK, Defected's 'Africanism' series and Osunlade's 'Offering' compilation.

Kaje’s Reason 4 workshop will include topics and techniques such as sidechain compression, filtering, automation, sample manipulation, the advantages of various audio formats (.wav, .rex, Soundfonts etc) as well as mixing, grooves and advanced rack setups. All Reason users from beginner to advanced should find new techniques and insights to make this a most valuable session

The SMC Production Sessions are guaranteed to take your work to the next level, and are one of the conference’s most exciting events. Learn first-hand from pro producers and engineers the ins and outs of all the latest sequencers, synths, samplers and plugins, and how to apply them to your productions to give them that edge that separates the good from the brilliant. Two half-day sessions are being offered; Remixing and Editing as well as Intermediate and Advanced Production Workshops. Space is limited, so don't delay as these sessions are guaranteed to sell out quickly. An additional fee is required.
